Luckily, you can easily do those using photoshop’s option. Adjusting the image resolution in Adobe Photoshop elements is much easier. Our following discussion will notify you of how to increase the resolution of an image in photoshop.
So, can you enhance the quality of a low-resolution image? It isn’t possible to change image resolution in photoshop after capturing it. Don’t worry; photoshop brings new technology to make that impossible task slightly possible.
Note: You can’t do that easily in the old version of photoshop like cs6, so take the latest version called Adobe Photoshop CC.
Here is the process of adjusting the resolution in Photoshop.
Step 01
You need to click on the File => Open => select your desired image => Click Ok. Then the image will be shown on the Photoshop window.
Now, let’s see the current resolution of the image you open. For that, you need to navigate to the Image => Image Size. Alternatively, you can use a shortcut, for mac Opt + CMD + I, for Windows Alt + I.

Now, a new window will appear, which will notify you of the image size, for example, pixel dimension of width and height. Although Photoshop shows you the default image size in pixels, you will find the option to change the size in centimeters, inches, or percentage.

One is the Fit To menu. Once you click here, you will see the following options in the drop-down.

Now, locate the Width and Height box and change the value you want. Once you change the number of those particular dialogue boxes, Photoshop will show you the image size in MB.
In our image, we changed the value by width 4000 and the height 2664. Then, navigate to the resampling mode. This mode notifies you of the algorithm by which photoshop adds new pixels. Here lie two options: “Bicubic Smoother” and “Preserve Details.”
Among those, “Bicubic Smoother” will help you in smoother enlargement. Hence your image becomes soft. But, in our case, though we increase the resolution of a low-resolution image, the change doesn’t bring any significant change and is not worth it.
So, what do you do now? It would be best if you went to the Edit Preferences. Inside the edit preference, you will see the “Technology Preview.”
Once you click on the “Technology Preview,” a new window named “Preferences” will appear. You need to check “Enable Preserve Details 2.0 Upscale” in that window. That’s the new technology that lets you increase image resolution. After checking, you need to click OK.
Step 04
Now, back to the picture and Image size dialogue box. On that box, you need to click on the Resample box. Then, a drop-down menu will appear to find the Preserve Details 2.0. So, you need to check that selection.
Again, you need to change the value of the image resolution. I hope that now the image looks better than the previous one. You can soften the image by controlling the noise.
Move the slider to the left; otherwise, move it to the right. Hopefully, you may see the change like the image looks softer than the previous. For our image, we set the noise value by 19%.
How does resampling affect resolution?
Resampling is the process of changing image resolution and file size. Who could do that change by adding or deleting the Image pixels? After the resampling, what will change the total number of your Image’s pixels (Width and Height)? You can detect that resampling option in the Image Size dialogue box.
However, if you want to add data to your Image, then uplift the pixel number in that Image Size dialogue box, which means upsampling. On the other hand, when you do the opposite, called downsampling, photoshop will remove data from the Image.
So, what may happen when you do upsampling and downsampling? Well, when you add or remove data from your Image, the quality of the Image will degrade slightly. People typically prefer to add data instead of remove data from the Image.
Photoshop can’t automatically guess what pixels need to be added to the low-resolution Image.
Simultaneously, Photoshop can’t accurately determine the number of pixels you need to remove from the Image while downsampling. A better result will come when you resize the Image without resampling.
Note: We suggest you resample your Image only once if you want.
After turning on the Resample using the Image Size dialog box, you will get the option to change the value of physical size, pixel dimensions, and resolution.
All those options are interconnected. That’s why, when you change one, it will affect other options as well.
Note: Your Image’s pixel dimension will always be affected.
You will face any of the following conditions.
● When you change your Image’s pixel dimensions, it will affect the size without affecting the resolution.
● With the change of your Image’s resolution, it will affect the pixel dimension without affecting the physical size.
● Once you change the physical size, it will affect the pixel dimensions without affecting the resolution.
Note that what couldn’t set the file size without changing the Image’s total data (pixel dimension) amount. So, if you want to know the amount of removed or added data after the resampling, note the size value before changing. After that, match the file size to see the difference.
Let’s see an example; if you find that the file size changes are 300 KB to 600 KB, that means your Image gets twice the data. That will degrade the Image. Hopefully, you know such images look jagged, blocky, or blurry.
